Presented in collaboration with Ars Lyrica, this performance showcases outstanding soloists and the Moores School Concert Chorale in a celebration of faith, triumph, and musical brilliance.

AURA
Under the direction of Rob Smith, AURA is dedicated to the performance of chamber music composed in the last two decades. Members of the ensemble become well acquainted with contemporary music repertoire, techniques, and styles. AURA seeks to identify and establish new and innovative means of performing chamber music in the twenty-first century by using theatrical lighting, video, projections, and electronics in their concerts, and through collaborations with actors, authors, dancers, and visual artists.
BANDS
Led by David Bertman and Cameron Kubos, the Moores School of Music Band Area offers a dynamic lineup of ensembles—including the Spirit of Houston Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, Symphonic Band, and Cougar Brass—open to all UH students. With performance opportunities at every level, students can engage in a vibrant, inclusive band community regardless of major.
CHAMBER
Chamber music at the Moores School of Music brings together student artists in intimate ensembles guided by expert faculty, combining their individual training with collaborative performance experiences. Through diverse repertoire and frequent performances, students refine essential musicianship skills and develop the artistry needed for success in professional careers.
CHOIRS
Led by Director of Choral Studies Anthony Maglione and Associate Director Kaitlin DeSpain, the Moores School of Music features award-winning ensembles that combine a legacy of excellence with innovative, high-level performance opportunities. From the internationally acclaimed Concert Chorale to Soundscape, Resonance, and the inclusive University Chorus, students and community members alike can experience a dynamic, collaborative choral environment at every level.
JAZZ
The Moores School of Music jazz ensembles present a wide-ranging repertoire—from the classic swing of Duke Ellington and Count Basie to contemporary and experimental sounds—through regular performances and the annual Moores School Jazz Festival featuring world-class artists. Led by Noe Marmolejo, the Jazz Orchestra anchors the program with dynamic on- and off-campus performances, engaging audiences through concerts, festivals, and community collaborations.
MARIACHI
Under the direction of José Longoria, the Moores School of Music’s Mariachi Program offers all UH students the opportunity to explore the rich traditions of mariachi through its premier ensemble, Mariachi Pumas, and junior ensemble, Mariachi Nuevo Houston. With hands-on performance experiences, community engagement, and outreach initiatives like the annual Mariachi Summer Camp, the program cultivates musical excellence while celebrating the vibrant cultural heritage of this dynamic art form.
ORCHESTRA
The Moores School Symphony Orchestra, led by Director of Orchestras Franz Anton Krager, is a premier ensemble of more than 110 musicians known for its dynamic performances of both new music and the standard repertoire. Collaborating regularly with the Moores Opera Center, UH Choirs, and the Houston Ballet Academy, the orchestra presents a wide range of works—from full symphonic repertoire to opera, oratorio, and ballet—while also performing with distinguished guest artists and concerto competition winners.
PERCUSSION
The Moores School Percussion Ensembles, directed by Blake Wilkins and Alec Warren, is an internationally recognized leader in percussion performance, with award-winning appearances at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. Known for its commitment to new music and innovative programming, the ensemble offers dynamic performance opportunities across multiple groups, including two concert percussion ensembles and the PANtagonists Steel Drum Band.

A. I. LACK VISITING ARTIST SERIES
The Moores School of Music’s A. I. Lack Visiting Artist Series brings renowned artist-teachers from across the country and around the world to campus for free masterclasses and recitals. Celebrating artistic excellence and education, the series was established in 1989 in memory of Abram I. Lack and continues through the legacy of his daughter, legendary violinist Fredell Lack Eichhorn, who taught at UH for 50 years.
