LEE BARKER
Head of Props/Paint in the BFA Production/Design
Lee Barker is a Houston based Scenic Designer, Painter, and Prop Designer. His designs have been featured at the Alley Theatre, Main Street Theatre & Theatre for Youth, Classical Theatre Company, Catastrophic Theatre, Ensemble Theatre, Queensbury Theatre, Mildred’s Umbrella Theatre Company, the Octarine Accord, Shunya Theatre, the University of St. Thomas, and more. He has been working with the Alley Theatre since joining as a carpenter and stage crew on their iconic production of Dracula. He is now a Teaching Artist, where his duties range from creating and leading stagecraft workshops for visiting students, to multi-week residencies teaching carpentry and painting techniques at juvenile detention centers in the Houston area. Lee earned his Bachelor of Arts in Performance Studies from Texas A&M University, and his Masters of Fine Arts in Theatre Design and Technology from the University of Missouri – Kansas City. While in graduate school in Kansas City, he designed scenery and props for the Coterie Theatre, and acted as the Props Director for the Heart of America Shakespeare Festival. Before joining the faculty at the University of Houston, Lee served as the Assistant Professor of Scenic and Lighting Design at Lamar University.
