JULEE KIM WALKER
Professor of Practice in Flute; Head of Woodwinds
Korean American flutist Dr. Julee Kim Walker is an acclaimed performer, educator, pedagogue, arts administrator, and mentor. A native of Houston, Texas, she joins the University of Houston as Professor of Practice in Flute beginning in Fall 2026, following fourteen years on the faculty at East Texas A&M University, where she served as Professor of Flute and Assistant Head of the School of Music.
An internationally recognized clinician, adjudicator, lecturer, masterclass artist, and performer, Dr. Walker has presented at leading institutions including the University of North Texas, the University of Colorado Boulder, Shanghai Normal University, the Raffaele Trevisani Summer Masterclass (Italy), and São Paulo State University (Brazil). Her international performances have taken her throughout Europe, South America, and Asia, with appearances in Austria, Italy, France, Croatia, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, South Korea, and China.
An active orchestral and chamber musician, Dr. Walker performs regularly with FlutAria Trio and collaborates with numerous ensembles throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, including the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Winds, Plano Symphony Orchestra, and Irving Symphony Orchestra. She has also appeared with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, The Dallas Opera, New Orchestra of Washington, Fort Worth Opera, Dallas Chamber Symphony, Chamber Music Society of Fort Worth, and Dallas Theater Center. As a featured soloist, she has performed with the Dallas Asian Winds, American Wind Symphony Orchestra, Southeastern Symphonic Winds, the East Texas A&M University Wind Ensemble and Jazz Ensemble, and Banda Sinfônica de Cubatão in Brazil.
A passionate and award-winning teacher, Dr. Walker is a two-time recipient of the Paul W. Barrus Distinguished Faculty Award for Teaching. She is committed to developing the next generation of musicians through innovative teaching, career mentorship, and professional development programs for students and universities.
An active leader in the flute community, Dr. Walker previously served on the Board of the National Flute Association and is a past president of the Texas Flute Society. She is the Artistic Director of the Texas Summer Flute Symposium and regularly presents workshops focused on career development and artistic entrepreneurship.
Julee earned degrees from The University of Texas at Austin, the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and the University of North Texas. Her principal teachers include September Payne, Christina Jennings, Karl Kraber, Timothy Day, and Terri Sundberg.
