GREG CARTER
Adjuct Professor/Associate Program Director
Writer, Producer, Director Greg Carter is a native of Houston, Texas, a graduate of Texas A&M University, and has produced over feature 50 films. His media partners include AMC Networks, Paramount +, Viacom/CBS, WE, eOne, Netflix, Lifetime, Warner Brothers and Amazon Prime Video. In addition to filmmaking, Greg is a President's Scholar and Professor of Film media at the University of Houston Valenti School of Communication and the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts.
Greg studied under Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, Charles Gordone, and Academy Award-winning writer/producer Pamela Wallace. Greg also served on the Board of Directors for the Southwest Alternate Media Project. He is an inductee of the Texas Filmmakers Hall of Fame, an Independent Spirit Award Recipient and Sundance and SXSW film festival alum.
Greg Carter is an Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences - Institutional Grant Awardee via Houston Museum of Fine Art and SWAMP; 53rd NAACP Image Award Nominee for producing and writing the documentary short- "Club Matinee: Memory Builds the Monument. Greg's commercial clients include Toyota, Lexus, Infiniti and others. He recently took on the role of Content Curator for Vyre.tv 's Southern Region. In this capacity Greg helps guide VYRE's curated content strategy across Texas and adjacent regional markets, with an emphasis on high-quality feature films, television series, docuseries, and live special events.
Greg is also a creator and showrunner for the hit UMC/ALLBLK television series, 5th Ward, which stars platinum R&B artist, Mya. Greg's recent films include The Christmas App (2025) which he wrote and produced, Hip Hop Family Christmas Wedding (2022) and Hip Hop Family Christmas (2021) for producer Jaime Foxx and Paramount+, My B.F.F. for Aspire TV, One Crazy Christmas for BET. As a line producer, Greg also worked on feature films distributed by Lionsgate, Warner Brothers, and Netflix. The film, A Boy, A Girl, A Dream starring Megan Good and Omari Hardwick premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and was distributed by Sony Pictures via Samuel Goldwyn Films. Most recently, Greg Produced and Line Produced the festival darling Sugar Beach which is slated for a 10-City theatrical release beginning June 26th of 2026 (Best LGBTQ Film - LA Film Awards, Best Picture, Best Director - CA Women's Film Festival, Audience Jury Award - SF Queer Fest)
