CAMERON KUBOS

Director of Athletic Bands and Spirit Groups

Mr. Cameron Kubos is the Director of Athletic Bands and Spirit Groups for the University of Houston, overseeing all Athletic Bands, the University of Houston Cheerleaders, and the Cougar Dolls. Mr. Kubos directs the Spirit of Houston Marching Band and Cougar Brass Basketball Bands as well as conducting the Symphonic Winds.

A graduate of the Moores School of Music, Mr. Kubos earned both a Bachelors and Masters Degree in trumpet performance. He has also completed all coursework for the Doctorate of Musical Arts in trumpet performance with a minor in conducting at the University of Houston and is currently finishing his essay "Cootie without Duke: Cootie Williams away from the Duke Ellington Orchestra, 1940-1962". Mr. Kubos's primary teachers in both conducting, music education, and performance have included David Bertman, John Benzer, Eddie Green, Noe Marmolejo, Mark Hughes, and Mark Barton.

Prior to his appointment as Director of Athletic Bands, Mr. Kubos spent three years serving as the Assistant Director of the Spirit of Houston, assisting with the marching band and overseeing the Cougar Brass Basketball Bands. In addition to his work with athletic bands, he worked under Mr. Noe Marmolejo assisting with the Moores School Jazz Program. He served as the producer of the annual Moores School of Music Jazz Festival and as the director of the Texas Music Festival Jazz Institute. Mr. Kubos has spent time working with many local high school band programs, including the national recognized Woodlands High School and Spring High School Marching Bands. In addition to his work as an educator, Mr. Kubos still performs in the Houston area including work with the Houston Symphony.
