Instructional Associate Professor of Percussion

Alec Warren is Instructional Associate Professor of Percussion at The Moores School of Music on the campus of the University of Houston where he teaches applied lessons, percussion methods and conducts the Percussion Ensemble 2. He regularly performs as a freelance artist throughout the Houston area where you can hear him with the The AD Players, Houston Ballet, TUTS, Bayou City Musicals, the Houston Choral Society, Texas Masterworks Chorale, HITS, the Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Cantare, the Michelle Brangwen Dance Ensemble, the United Nations Chorus, the Synergy Brass Ensemble, Broadway Across America among many others. As a freelance musician, Alec has had opportunities to play with many well know musicians such as The Who, Johnny Mathis, Weird Al Yankovic, Amy Grant, Michael W. Smith, among others. While living in Toronto, he had the opportunity to study tabla with Pandit Sharda Shahi and Bob Becker. Mr. Warren received his Bachelor's of Music from Sam Houston State University where he studied percussion with Rod Cannon and Ray Dillard. He received his Masters in Music Performance from the University of North Texas where he studied under Dr. Robert Schietroma, Ed Soph and Leigh Stevens. As an educator, Alec has had the pleasure of teaching on the faculty of Sam Houston State University, Austin College, Lone Star College and San Jacinto Junior College as well as teaching at Spring High School, Westfield High School and Friendswood High School. Alec is an active clinician presenting clinics, conducting percussion ensembles and presiding as a judge on many concerto competitions. He has been on faculty with The American Festival of the Arts since 2002. He has an endorsement with Innovative Percussion and is a member of PASIC. Alec is married to his wife Robynne of 29 years. He enjoys watching his two sons, Aiden and Tristan, play baseball and golf.
